Tahereh Alavi Hojjat serves as Professor and Chair of Economics within the Kathleen Waterbury and J.B. Reilly School of Business at DeSales University. Her academic leadership extends to editorial roles including the Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Business (JAFEB) and Taking Side Clashing Views on Global Issues, alongside prior advisory positions with Houghton-Mifflin and McGraw Hill Publishing. Professional affiliations include ex-officio membership on the Pennsylvania Economic Association Board of Directors and active participation in the United States Association of Energy Economics (USAEE).

Dr. Hojjat's research program integrates health economics with socioeconomic analysis, prominently featuring her seminal works The Economics of Obesity: Poverty, Income Inequality and Health (Springer, 2017; 2nd ed. 2021) and Islamic Economy and Social Mobility: Cultural and Religious Considerations (IGI-Global, 2016). Her scholarship examines the intersection of economic policy, cultural frameworks, and health outcomes through empirical studies on obesity determinants and Islamic economic systems, while finance applications are demonstrated in her Mini-Cases in Finance supplement to Mishkin's textbook.
