Tadele Mengesha

Tadele Mengesha is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), within the Department of Mathematics, College of Arts and Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Temple University in 2007, under the supervision of Prof. Yury Grabovsky. Prior to joining UTK in 2014, he held positions as an Assistant Professor at Coastal Carolina University, a postdoctoral researcher at Louisiana State University (working with Prof. Robert Lipton), and at Penn State University (working with Prof. Qiang Du).

His research focuses on applied mathematics, particularly the analysis of solutions to partial differential and integral equations arising in modeling scientific phenomena. Key areas include nonlocal models (e.g., peridynamics), regularity theory of solutions, asymptotic analysis, homogenization, and calculus of variations. He has contributed to topics such as diffuse domain approximations, gamma-convergence, and fractional Korn’s inequalities.

Mengesha’s work bridges theoretical analysis with applications in mechanics and materials science. His recent publications emphasize nonlocal systems, optimal design problems, and compactness results in nonlocal function spaces. He actively contributes to academic events, including proceedings from the 50th John H. Barrett Memorial Lectures on nonlocal models.
