Professor TU Weiming serves as Harvard-Yenching Professor of Chinese History and Philosophy of Confucian Studies at Harvard University and holds an Honorary Professorship at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB), where he chairs the Committee on the Humanities. He also directs the Harvard-Yenching Institute, a leading center for advanced research in East Asian humanities.
His educational background includes a B.A. in Chinese Studies from Tunghai University (1961), followed by an M.A. (1963) and Ph.D. (1968) from Harvard University. Prior to joining Harvard's faculty in 1981, he taught at Princeton University (1967-71) and the University of California, Berkeley (1971-81).
Professor TU specializes in Chinese intellectual history and the modern transformation of Confucian humanism, with research spanning Confucian philosophy, East Asian civilizational studies, and intercultural dialogue. His work bridges classical Confucian thought with contemporary global challenges, emphasizing ethical frameworks for business and governance.
His scholarly contributions include a five-volume Chinese-language anthology of collected works (2001) and numerous publications analyzing Confucianism's relevance to modern business ethics and cross-civilizational understanding, as evidenced by his 2019 CKGSB lecture series on Confucianism in contemporary business.
