Heiner Roetz is a Professor of Chinese History and Philosophy at the Chair of Chinese History and Philosophy, Faculty of East Asian Studies, Ruhr University Bochum. His research focuses on Chinese ethics, Classical Confucianism, tradition and modernity in China, and Chinese religious history. He has led projects such as 'Begriffsgeschichtliche Untersuchungen zum Wortfeld Religion im antiken und mittelalterlichen China' and contributed to the 'Käte Hamburger Kolleg address'.
Roetz's publications span analyses of Confucian ethics, Axial Age theories, and modern Chinese cultural dynamics. Key works include studies on Buddhism in Chinese intellectual history, waste management in 20th-century Chinese cities, and the role of Confucianism in human rights discourse.
