Lionel Jensen is an Associate Professor in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Notre Dame. His research focuses on Chinese religion, intellectual history, and modern socio-political issues. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley (1992).

- Confucianism's intellectual history
- Chinese religion and thought
- Contemporary economy, politics, and human rights
- Early Sino-Western contact and mythology
- Nationalism and popular cults
Awards:
- Recipient of the 1998 American Academy of Religion's Best First Book Award for *Manufacturing Confucianism*.
- 2010 Rev. Edmund P. Joyce Teaching Award in the Humanities.
Publications: Authored *Manufacturing Confucianism* and co-edited volumes like *China Off Center* (2002) and *China in and beyond the Headlines* (2012, Choice Award).
