T. M. Makori is an Assistant Professor in Globalisation and Development at Maastricht University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. His research examines social, economic, and environmental impacts of resource extraction in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), focusing on artisanal mining communities and historical entanglements.

Research interests include:
- Colonial and postcolonial mining governance
- Precarity and economic ethics in artisanal mining
- Intergenerational narratives of decline
- Due diligence programs and human rights
- Urban re-arrangements in African cities
His publications span studies on:
- 2024 analysis of tin supply chains in South Kivu
- 2023 collaborative work on urban formalization
- 2017 ethnography of creuseurs in Congo Copperbelt
- 2013 comparative generational narratives in Katanga
- 2006 decolonization through language policy
Current projects include a book titled Rich Soils, Empty Hands: Artisanal Mining, Historical Generations and Coloniality in the Congo Copperbelt, alongside collaborative research with Ulula Canada, IPIS Antwerp, UCLA, and Sub-Saharan Field Research & Consulting.
