Søren Stobbe

Søren Stobbe is a Professor and Head of Section in the Department of Electrical and Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where he leads the Photonic Nanotechnology group within the NanoPhoton – Center for Nanophotonics. He is actively involved in cutting-edge research in nanophotonics and quantum technologies, with strong affiliations to the Center for Quantum Technologies.

His research focuses on nanophotonics, quantum photonics, and light-matter interactions, particularly in dielectric nanostructures such as photonic crystals and silicon cavities. His work enables atomic-scale confinement of light and high-efficiency quantum emitters, with applications in quantum computing and integrated photonic circuits. Key research themes include spontaneous emission control, inverse design, and photonic crystal waveguides.

His recent publications highlight advancements in inverse design of photonic components, atomic-scale silicon cavities, and subdiffraction dielectric resonators, demonstrating a strong trend toward miniaturized, high-performance photonic devices for quantum technologies.

Scientific Supervision and Grants: He is the main supervisor for multiple PhD projects funded by DTU, including research on light-matter interaction in subdiffraction cavities, photonic computing with nano-electromechanical systems, and the giant Purcell effect via inverse design. His leadership in these projects reflects sustained grant support and a strong mentorship role.

Laboratories and Research Groups: He leads the Photonic Nanotechnology group at DTU, which is part of the broader NanoPhoton Center. His team specializes in theoretical and experimental work on nanophotonic structures, quantum emitters, and integrated photonic devices.
