Sílvia Anjos is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics, College of Engineering, Universidade de Lisboa. Her research focuses on Symplectic Geometry and Topology, with significant contributions to the understanding of symplectomorphism groups of rational surfaces and ruled 4-manifolds. She has supervised multiple PhD and MSc students and co-organized major geometry seminars.
Education:
- PhD in Mathematics (2000) from State University of New York at Stony Brook
- Licenciada in Applied Mathematics and Computation (1994) from Instituto Superior Técnico
Her research explores the interplay between symplectic topology, algebraic structures, and geometric analysis. Key themes include Hamiltonian dynamics, manifold embeddings, and homotopy decompositions. Recent work involves kinematic formulas in convex geometry for non-compact groups.
Scientific contributions span over two decades, with notable collaborations on Seidel's morphism, non-contractible Hamiltonian loops, and the topology of symplectic ball spaces. She actively participates in academic activities like the Geometria em Lisboa Seminar and Lisbon Summer Lectures in Geometry.
