Szu-Yu Chen is an Associate Professor and Associate Department Chair of the MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Palo Alto University's Counseling Department. She holds a PhD in Counseling from the University of North Texas. A bilingual (English/Mandarin) licensed professional clinical counselor, she specializes in play therapy, multicultural counseling, and clinical supervision. Her work spans private practice, community agencies, and educational settings.
Dr. Chen’s research focuses on humanistic play therapy, family dynamics, teacher interventions, and the mental health of immigrant populations. Notable awards include the North Central Association Outstanding Supervisor Award and the Western AACES Emerging Leaders Award. She actively addresses systemic inequities faced by Asian American communities through advocacy and research.
