Kimberly Jayne, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Counseling Department at Saybrook University, serving as Program Coordinator for the PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. She previously taught at Portland State University and the University of New Mexico. Her work focuses on child-centered play therapy, LGBTQ+ youth advocacy, and person-centered theory. She holds multiple licenses including LPC (OR), LMHC (WA), and LPCC (NM), and certifications in play therapy supervision and perinatal mental health.
Dr. Jayne's education includes a Ph.D. in Counseling from the University of North Texas, an M.Ed. in Counseling, and theological studies from Southern Methodist University and Southern Nazarene University. She is a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor (RPT-S) and certified in Child-Centered Play Therapy and Child-Parent Relationship Therapy.
Her research emphasizes qualitative methods, grounded theory, and multicultural counseling. She leads a free play therapy program for preschoolers and runs a private practice specializing in clinical supervision and counseling for caregivers. She contributes to the field through editorial roles at the Journal of Child and Adolescent Counseling and International Journal of Play Therapy.
Dr. Jayne’s articles explore play therapy techniques, adolescent development, and LGBTQIA+ cultural considerations. Her work bridges therapeutic practices with community impact, emphasizing humanistic approaches in both clinical and educational settings.
