Syukuro Manabe is a renowned climate scientist and Senior Meteorologist at Princeton University's Program in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. He is a Nobel laureate (2021) for pioneering global climate modeling. Affiliated with the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL), his work laid foundations for understanding climate change mechanisms.
Education: B.A., M.A., and D.Sc. in Meteorology from the University of Tokyo (1953-1959). Career highlights include developing the first global climate model (1960s) and demonstrating CO2's role in global warming. Collaborations include Kirk Bryan on coupled ocean-atmosphere models and later work on transient climate responses.
Research focuses on climate system interactions, numerical modeling, and paleoclimate studies. Awards include the Nobel Prize, Crafoord Prize, and Blue Planet Prize. His models remain foundational for modern climate research, predicting temperature and hydrological changes linked to greenhouse gases.
