Dr. Sylvia Barack Fishman is Joseph and Esther Foster Professor Emerita of Judaic Studies at Brandeis University, where she co-directs the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute. She earned her PhD from Washington University.
Her scholarship analyzes American Jewish identity through family structures, gender roles, and literary expressions. Award-winning works explore feminism in Jewish communities and diaspora relationships with Israel. Research integrates sociological analysis with cultural studies methodologies.
