Sylvain Brunier is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for the Sociology of Organisations (CSO) at Sciences Po, focusing on the history of agricultural modernization and the role of knowledge tools in policy implementation. His research bridges historical analysis with contemporary environmental health concerns.
- PhD in History (2012, University of Grenoble)
- Postdoctoral fellowships at IFRIS (2018) and CSO (2017)
His research interests span the sociology of agriculture, environmental health, data infrastructure, and the institutional role of expertise. Recent projects examine satellite surveillance in agricultural policy and corporate-state prescriptions in reconciling intensive farming with ecological constraints.
Brunier actively contributes to academic collaborations, co-organizing doctoral seminars at CSO and rural history workshops at EHESS. He also serves on the history committee of the Solidarité Paysans association.
