Alain Chatriot is a Professor at Sciences Po's Centre for History (CHSP), specializing in French political, social, and economic history. His academic journey began with studies at Sciences Po and Paris 1 University, culminating in a PhD from EHESS. Prior to joining Sciences Po, he served as a researcher at CNRS from 2005 to 2015. Currently, he holds the position of editor-in-chief of Histoire@Politique until September 2025 and maintains an active research agenda examining the historical development of state institutions and policies.
Chatriot's research interests span political history, social history, economic history, history of the state, history of administration, history of economic and social policies, history of the Third Republic, history of work, and history of agricultural policies. His work demonstrates particular expertise in the intersection of political structures and economic policy-making throughout French history, with special attention to the evolution of administrative systems and their impact on societal development. He has established himself as a leading scholar in the historical analysis of French governance structures and their adaptation to changing political and economic circumstances.
