Jean-Noël Jouzel is a CNRS Research Director at the Center for the Sociology of Organizations (CSO) at Sciences Po Paris. His work intersects science studies, sociology of public action, and sociology of mobilization, focusing on the social construction of ignorance in environmental and occupational health contexts.
- Research Focus: Pesticide effects on worker and resident health, nanomaterial chemical risk monitoring, hospital medicine's role in occupational disease recognition
- Teaching: Courses on risk sociology, environmental health, and expertise dynamics at Sciences Po and EHESS
His research projects include:
- Governing Distance: Pesticides and Resident Health
- Role of hospital medicine in pesticide-linked disease reporting
- SURIPI: Surveillance of Uncertain Professional Risks
Key scientific distinctions:
- 2021 Prescrire Prize for 'Pesticides. How to ignore what we know?'
Jouzel's publications and collaborative projects reveal trends in understanding how institutional practices, regulatory frameworks, and scientific uncertainties contribute to the under-recognition of occupational/environmental health issues. His work frequently examines the interplay between technical knowledge, policy decisions, and affected communities' struggles.
