Syed Saif Mahmood is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of India and holds a doctorate in Comparative Constitutional Law in South Asia. He is affiliated with the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at the University of Oxford, where he researches the status of free speech in Mughal courts and its parallels with modern Indian judicial responses. His work bridges legal scholarship, cultural history, and literature.
Dr. Mahmood’s expertise spans constitutional law, human rights advocacy, and Islamic law, with his scholarly contributions cited by India’s Supreme Court and incorporated into law school curricula. He co-edits the Delhi High Court’s Quarterly Bar Review and is co-author of Supreme Court of India: A Jekyll & Hyde Story. His literary work includes Beloved Delhi: A Mughal City and Her Greatest Poets, and he is currently researching Urdu poet Majaz Lucknowi.
