Syed Azer Reza is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics & Optical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He holds a PhD from the University of Central Florida (2010), along with M.S. degrees from the University of Central Florida (2007) and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (2005), and a B.S. from the Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences & Technology (2003).
His research focuses on metrology, imaging systems, photonic signal processing, and optical interferometry. Notably, he has pioneered work on motion-free interferometric techniques using varifocal optics and developed phasor field wave models for non-line-of-sight imaging. Recent contributions include advancements in magneto-optical nanoparticle characterization and high-throughput interferometry with engineered diffusers.
His publications span topics such as adaptive interferometry, non-line-of-sight imaging algorithms, and optical sensor design. His work often integrates experimental validation with theoretical models, bridging fundamental optics and applied engineering.
Teaching interests include optical systems design, device fabrication, and measurement methodologies. He has contributed to curricular development in optical engineering at Rose-Hulman, emphasizing hands-on experimentation and modern optical technologies.
