معرفی
Andreas Velten is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, holding dual affiliations in the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He directs the Computational Optics Group and focuses on developing advanced imaging systems capable of capturing light propagation, diagnosing tissue conditions, and enabling imaging around corners or through scattering media.
- Education: PhD in Physics from the University of New Mexico (with Prof. Jean-Claude Diels), Postdoctoral work at MIT Media Lab's Camera Culture Group.
- Research Interests: Computational imaging, time-of-flight imaging, non-line-of-sight imaging, photonics, and applications in surgery and material analysis.
His research spans innovations like single-photon cameras for low-light environments and advanced algorithms for reconstructing obscured scenes. Notable contributions include the CORNAR camera and foundational work in virtual wave optics for non-line-of-sight imaging.
- Awards: 2020 Vilas Associates Award, 2018 NSF CAREER Award, MIT TR35 (2012), and Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Award (2012).
Velten co-founded OnLume (surgical imaging systems) and Ubicept (single-photon imaging solutions). His labs and collaborations emphasize bridging hardware innovation with algorithmic advancements in imaging science.
