Syahrul Nellis is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the South East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO), Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia. His work bridges public health, climate change, and digital health technologies, with a strong focus on infectious disease surveillance and environmental health in Southeast Asia.
His educational background includes a PhD in Medical Microbiology, an MA in Strategic and Defence Studies, and a BA in Geography (GIS), all from Universiti Malaya. This multidisciplinary training underpins his research in climate-health interactions and geospatial epidemiology.
Dr. Nellis's research interests include public health, climate change and health, e-Health, wearable devices, socio-economics, and environmental protection. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health, climate action, and sustainable communities. He has led and contributed to projects on dengue surveillance, climate-health monitoring, and pandemic response, often involving vulnerable populations such as FELDA and Orang Asli communities.
His recent publications highlight a strong trend in integrating geospatial analysis, climate data, and public health informatics to monitor and predict disease outbreaks, particularly dengue and heat-related health risks. The use of eHealth and digital tools is a recurring theme, reflecting his focus on innovative, data-driven solutions for community health challenges.

Dr. Nellis is actively involved in mentoring PhD students and has secured research funding from national grants. His collaborative network includes institutions such as WHO-TIDREC, MIMOS Berhad, and international consortia under WONCA. He is a key contributor to the CHIMES project, advancing climate-health monitoring through digital platforms at SEACO.
He is affiliated with the Tropical Infectious Disease Research and Education Centre (TIDREC), a Centre of Excellence in Malaysia, and has worked on government-funded projects involving semantic database development for dengue surveillance (I-DenSeID). His lab and team activities are centered around SEACO, where he contributes to building health and demographic surveillance systems in semi-rural and forest-fringe communities.
