Dr. Swidbert Ott is a Lecturer in Animal Biology at the University of Leicester's School of Biological Sciences. Previously holding a Reader position, his research focuses on neurobiological mechanisms underlying animal behavior, particularly swarming in locusts and behavioral plasticity in insects.
Research examines proximate mechanisms of collective behavior, neural basis of phenotypic plasticity, and epigenetic regulation of behavioral states. His work integrates neuroanatomy, molecular biology, and behavioral ecology to understand how environmental cues trigger behavioral transformations.
Recent publications investigate neural correlates of learning, genomic basis of phase change, and infection impacts on physiological processes in insects. His research employs diverse methods ranging from genome sequencing to behavioral assays and neural imaging.
Dr. Ott received the prestigious Royal Society University Research Fellowship (2005-2014) supporting his investigations into swarming behavior mechanisms. His current teaching focuses on animal biology and neuroethology.
