معرفی
Dr. Tom Matheson is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Neurobiology at the University of Leicester's Department of Genetics and Genome Biology. He holds a PhD in Zoology from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge, where he secured a Research Fellowship at Girton College and a BBSRC Advanced Research Fellowship. His career includes significant contributions to neurobiology, motor control, and insect behavior research.
Research Interests: Dr. Matheson’s work focuses on neurobiological mechanisms underlying motor control, proprioception, and sensory adaptation in insects. His lab investigates how limb movements are coordinated, how sensory systems adapt to environmental changes, and the developmental and physiological basis of behavior in species like locusts and crustaceans.
Awards & Funding: He has been awarded multiple prestigious fellowships, including the BBSRC Advanced Research Fellowship and a Research Development Fellowship. His work is supported by grants from national funding bodies and has led to over 40 peer-reviewed publications.
Teaching & Leadership: He leads Neuroscience and Psychology teaching initiatives in Biological Sciences at Leicester and contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate education. He actively participates in grant review panels for national/international agencies and serves on the board of the NC3Rs, promoting ethical research practices.
Labs & Collaborations: His neurobiology lab trains postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to understanding sensory-motor systems. Current projects explore phase-dependent neuroplasticity in locusts and temperature adaptation in Antarctic crustaceans.
