Svitlana Matviyenko

Svitlana Matviyenko is an Associate Professor of Critical Media Analysis in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University and serves as Associate Director of the Digital Democracies Institute. She holds leadership roles in multiple research initiatives focused on contemporary media and technology issues.

Her research interests span cyberwar, media and environment, critical infrastructure studies, postcolonial theory, nuclear cultures, and science and technology studies. Matviyenko's work is particularly notable for its investigation of nuclear terror, weaponization of pollution, and technogenic catastrophes during the Russian war in Ukraine.

Her publications demonstrate significant expertise across multiple domains including digital warfare, posthuman theory, and mobile application culture. Her research connects theoretical frameworks with urgent contemporary issues in media and technology.
