Sverre August Christensen

Sverre August Christensen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Legal Studies and Governance, BI Norwegian Business School. His roles include course responsibility for 'The Firm,' a compulsory bachelor’s course, and leadership in research initiatives such as the Centre for Business History and a state ownership research hub with industry partners like Equinor and Hydro. He holds a Ph.D. from BI Norwegian Business School (2006) and prior degrees from the University of Oslo (Master, 1997; Bachelor, 1994).
His research focuses on corporate governance, ownership models, and state-business relations, with a historical emphasis on Norway’s industrial and energy sectors. Notable projects include analyzing Storebrand’s CSR leadership (2017) and Norway’s unique state ownership in listed firms (2023).
Christensen has published widely on topics like Telenor’s corporate success narratives (2022), historical free-standing companies (2021), and the legacy of Norsk Hydro (1999). His work bridges historical case studies and modern policy debates, particularly in globalized and state-influenced economies.
