Svend Skriver

Svend Skriver is an Associate Professor in Literary Didactics at the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen. He currently serves as Head of Studies for Literature in the Danish program and Deputy Head of Department for Education. His academic career spans over two decades with continuous affiliation to the University of Copenhagen since 2002.

Research Focus: Skriver specializes in Scandinavian literature with particular expertise in literary history, didactics, and contemporary Danish authors including Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen), Søren Ulrik Thomsen, and Georg Brandes. His work bridges literary analysis with educational methodology, examining how literature is taught and interpreted. Recent publications explore academic prose structures, poetic symbolism, and mythological frameworks in Scandinavian writing.

His 56 research outputs reveal a consistent focus on literary criticism and educational frameworks, with significant contributions to understanding contemporary Danish poetry and the pedagogical dimensions of literary studies. Key trends include hermeneutic analysis of poetic devices, interdisciplinary methodology development, and historical reappraisals of Scandinavian authors.

Administrative Leadership: Skriver chairs the University of Copenhagen Scholarship Board and serves on multiple committees including the Ministry of Education's Subject Board for Danish (A). He has led pedagogical initiatives to reduce student attrition and organized doctoral courses on academic teaching. His research management includes directing the Danish Subject Matter Studies group (2012-2021) and co-founding the Nordic Network for Danish Subject Matter Studies (DaDi).

Labs & Teams: He founded and led the research group for Danish Subject Matter Didactics at NorS (2012-2021), fostering collaboration between literary scholars and educators. His work with the Bibliometric Research Indicator group significantly influenced national research assessment frameworks for literary studies.
