Patrick Wen is a Continuing Lecturer in Scandinavian Studies within the Department of European Languages and Transnational Cultures (ELTS) at UCLA, part of the Humanities Division. His research focuses on modern literary history, crime literature, Isak Dinesen, Nordic film and TV studies, and comparative literature. He holds a B.A. in American Literature from Northwestern University, a Vitnemål from Olavskolen Folkehøgskole, and both an M.A. and Ph.D. in Scandinavian Literature and Comparative Literature from UCLA.
His current research explores John Steinbeck’s influence on resistance movements in occupied Europe during WWII. Featured works include analyses of Flannery O’Connor’s writings and the Parker/Hulme murder case’s literary implications. Courses taught span Scandinavian languages, literatures, cinema, and crime narratives.
