Erica Weaver is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Department of English, specializing in Old English and Anglo-Latin literature. She earned her B.A. from Columbia University (2012) and her Ph.D. from Harvard University (2018).

Her research interrogates the intersections of distraction, cognition, and monastic reform in early medieval England, as detailed in her monograph The Hermeneutics of Distraction in Early Medieval England (2025). She explores how difficult styles, enigmatic texts, and medieval attention practices shaped literary and hermeneutic traditions.
Recent publications include studies of Boethius’s Consolation in medieval England and analyses of Ælfric’s homilies. A 2018 Paul E. Szarmach Prize recipient, her work bridges critical theory, gender studies, and manuscript scholarship.
