Prof. Dr. med. Sven Schulzke is a Professor of Neonatology at the University of Basel and Head of the Neonatology Department at the University Children's Hospital Basel (UKBB), where he also serves as Deputy Medical Director and Head of Research. He has held these roles since 2010. Previously, he worked in Australia as a Consultant Neonatologist and Clinical Senior Lecturer (2008–2010) and as a Research Fellow at King Edward Memorial Hospital. His credentials include an MD from Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg (1995) and a Master of Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Newcastle, Australia (2009).
His research specializes in neonatal respiratory disorders and clinical epidemiology, with a focus on bronchopulmonary dysplasia, ventilatory management of preterm infants, and pharmacotherapy. His work integrates multicenter studies and guideline development to improve outcomes for high-risk neonates. Publications emphasize evidence-based interventions, predictive modeling of respiratory outcomes, and pediatric data networks.
Schulzke received the 2008 Curosurf Innovative Research Award for his work on lung volume abnormalities in preterm infants. He actively contributes to peer review for journals including the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and the European Respiratory Journal, as well as for the Swiss National Science Foundation.
