Nelson Claure serves as Research Professor of Pediatrics and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he holds dual appointments in the Department of Pediatrics (Division of Neonatology) and the School of Engineering. As Director of the Neonatal Respiratory Physiology Laboratory, he leads research on respiratory instability in premature infants and develops advanced ventilatory support systems.

Current investigations examine how prenatal exposures and postnatal interventions affect respiratory outcomes.
Recent publications (2024-2025) reveal three dominant research trajectories: (1) physiological consequences of oxygen instability, (2) ventilator-induced lung injury prevention, and (3) bronchopulmonary dysplasia diagnostics.
