Svante Pääbo is a Nobel Prize-winning geneticist currently serving as a Guest Professor of Comparative Genomics at Uppsala University, Sweden, and an Honorary Professor of Genetics and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Leipzig, Germany. Since 1997, he has directed the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany.
- Research Focus: Pääbo pioneered the field of paleogenetics, decoding the genomes of extinct hominins like Neanderthals and Denisovans. His work on the "language gene" (FOXP2) and evolutionary anthropology has transformed understanding of human evolution.
- Academic Legacy: Holding positions since 1986, Pääbo has been a Full Professor at the University of Munich (1990–1998) and completed postdoctoral work at UC Berkeley and the University of Zürich.
