Svante Pääbo

Svante Pääbo serves as Director of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig and Professor of Genetics and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Leipzig. His pioneering work established the field of paleogenetics through revolutionary ancient DNA techniques that enabled sequencing of extinct hominins. Pääbo leads the Department of Evolutionary Genetics and maintains affiliations with Uppsala University, the Natural History Museum London, and Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology.
