Suzette Youngs

Suzette Youngs is a Professor in Literacy Education at the School of Teacher Education, part of the University of Northern Colorado's College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. With academic expertise in literacy studies, she focuses on teacher recruitment and retention, content analysis of contemporary picturebooks, and disciplinary literacy frameworks.

Her research examines visual literacy in children's literature, multigenre writing pedagogies, and multimodal analysis of educational materials. Recent publications analyze rural representation in picturebooks and strategies for sustaining rural teacher pipelines.

Notable awards include the 2022 Sears Helgoth Distinguished Teaching Award, multiple CCIRA All Star Presenter recognitions, and consistent campus-wide teaching honors since 2010. She serves as faculty advisor for the Future Teacher Club and co-organizes the UNC Future Teacher Conference.
