Suzette R. Grillot is a Professor of International & Area Studies at the University of Oklahoma's David L. Boren College of International Studies. She served as the College's Dean from 2012 to 2019 and previously as its Associate Dean (2008–2012). Grillot holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Georgia (1997), alongside degrees from Oklahoma State University (BS, 1990; MA, 1992). Her academic career spans over three decades, with a focus on global security, arms control, and international activism. She has established international study centers in Italy, Brazil, and Mexico, and has conducted research across Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Grillot is also an entrepreneur, co-founding ventures like The Third Space and Equity Brewing Company to promote equity and community-building.
Her research interests include small arms control, global governance, and the intersection of activism with inequality. Notable publications include Understanding the Global Community (2013), Virtuous Journeys Abroad (2017), and peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Global Governance and Contemporary Security Policy. Grillot’s awards include the OU President’s Distinguished Faculty Mentor Award (2010) and the Voice of Courage Award (2018). She actively advocates for marginalized communities through platforms like Amplify and Studio 3, emphasizing storytelling and social justice.
