Suzette Grillot is a Professor of International & Area Studies at the University of Oklahoma's David L. Boren College of International Studies, where she has been on faculty since January 1999 and served as Dean from July 2012 until January 2019. She also held the position of Vice Provost for International Programs and the William J. Crowe, Jr. Chair in Geopolitics. Dr. Grillot was instrumental in creating the College and establishing international studies centers in Italy, Brazil, and Mexico.
Her research focuses on international relations, global security, international activism, inequality and activism, illicit trafficking, and American foreign policy. Dr. Grillot's work examines small arms control, security community development in the Balkans, containerized freight security, and transnational advocacy networks. She has conducted research in dozens of countries across Europe, Asia, and Latin America, including a Fulbright Scholarship in Macedonia and a teaching fellowship at Beijing University.
Dr. Grillot's publications reveal a consistent focus on security studies, particularly small arms proliferation and control, Balkan security community development, and international activism. Her work demonstrates an interdisciplinary approach that bridges international relations theory with practical security challenges, with particular attention to how norms develop and spread globally.

As an educator, Dr. Grillot has received multiple teaching awards including the Gary B. Cohen Distinguished Faculty Award, Educator's Leadership Academy Outstanding Professor Award, and the OU President's Distinguished Faculty Mentor Award. She has taught a wide range of courses including Global Community, Global Security, International Activism, Inequality and Activism, and Illicit Trafficking. Beyond her academic work, she has secured multiple research grants including from the U.S. Department of Transportation for port security research.
Dr. Grillot is also actively involved in community building through The Third Space, a community-building and co-working space in Norman, Oklahoma, and Equity Brewing Company, which aims to bring equity, diversity, and inclusion to the craft beer industry. She founded Time's Up Higher Ed to address sexual misconduct and gender inequality on college campuses.
