Dr. Suzanne O'Neill serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Classics within Trinity College Dublin's School of Histories and Humanities, teaching Greek and Roman Mythology and Religion, Greek Archaeology, and Classical Architecture: Reception and Re-imaginings. She additionally contributes to multiple programmes in the School of Histories and Humanities and serves as the dedicated lecturer for Ancient Greek and Roman History on the Trinity College Access Programme.
Her research centers on classical reception through the lens of Irish cultural and political engagement with antiquity, with key focus areas including:
- Material culture reinterpretation in modern contexts
- Political symbolism in architectural heritage
- Greek/Roman mythological narratives in contemporary society
- Archaeological interpretation and re-imagining
- Neoclassical architecture as ideological expression
- Cross-cultural reception studies
O'Neill's publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly engagement with how classical forms serve modern political narratives, particularly through Dublin and Belfast's neoclassical structures. Her work reveals how ancient architectural motifs are strategically adapted to articulate evolving concepts of liberty, democracy, and power within post-colonial Irish contexts across the 19th-21st centuries.
