Suzanne Laberge is a Full Professor at the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Medicine, within the School of Kinesiology and Physical Activity Sciences. Her research focuses on physical activity promotion, sociology of sport, and interdisciplinary health research. She holds affiliations with institutions like the CREMIS (Centre de Recherche Montréal sur les Inégalités Sociales) and the CIUKMT (Comité Inter-Universitaire sur la Kinésiologie en Milieu de Travail).
Laberge earned a Master’s in Kinesiology (1981) and a PhD in Anthropology (1977), both from the University of Montreal. Her work spans evaluating physical activity programs, gender dynamics in sports, and applying Bourdieu’s sociological theories to active lifestyles.
Key achievements include winning the 2011 American Sociological Association’s Best Paper Award and the 2003 North American Association for the Sociology of Sport’s Outstanding Article Award. She has supervised over 30 graduate students, focusing on topics like youth physical activity, active aging, and physician-patient interactions.
Her research projects include assessing nature connectedness among outdoor workers, promoting active aging programs, and evaluating Quebec’s school-based physical activity initiatives. She collaborates with organizations like Montréal physiquement active and the Federation of General Practitioners of Quebec.
Laberge’s contributions extend to policy advising, public speaking, and interdisciplinary research advocacy. Her work bridges sociology, kinesiology, and public health to address societal challenges in physical activity promotion and health equity.
