Suzanne Akbari is a Visiting Professor focused on Gender in Manuscript Cultures. Her research explores medieval literature, manuscript transmission, and cultural exchange along the Silk Road, with current work examining gender representation in textual artefacts.
Primary research domains include: medieval concepts of periodization, feminist reappraisals of historical texts, cross-cultural encounters in medieval manuscripts, and modern appropriations of medieval history. Her work connects literary analysis with historical context to examine identity formation.
Recent curatorial projects include the Aga Khan Museum exhibition 'Books Along the Silk Roads,' investigating manuscript mobility and cultural exchange. Publications reinterpret historical works through feminist frameworks, including contributions to the U.S. Feminist Judgments Project.
