Suzanna Opree

Suzanna Opree is an Associate Professor of Quantitative Research Methods at the Department of Media and Communication within Erasmus University Rotterdam's Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication. She holds MA (Culture Studies) and MSc (Sociology) degrees from Tilburg University and a PhD in Communication Science from the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR). Her research focuses on the impact of advertising and media on youth materialism and well-being, particularly through her 'The good(s) life' research line. She has held roles including Assistant Professor at the University of Amsterdam and currently coordinates the International Bachelor in Communication and Media IBCoM's thesis program.

Her research clusters include ERMeCHS's PCI (Popular Culture and Inequalities) and Hum-Andr010d (Digital Humanities). Key interests span quantitative methods, research ethics, consumer culture theory, and media psychology. Notable awards include the Baschwitz Young Scholar Award (2015), Erasmus University Research Prize (2017), and teaching accolades from both the University of Amsterdam and Erasmus University. She actively participates in editorial roles (e.g., Journal of Children and Media) and serves on academic committees like NWO-grant panels.

Her recent work explores surveillance beliefs around smart devices, LGBTQ representation in media, and privacy decision-making.
