Dr. Suzanna Millar is a Lecturer in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at the University of Edinburgh's School of Divinity. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has held roles including Chancellor's Fellow and Teaching Fellow. Her research focuses on wisdom literature, ecological/animal hermeneutics, and biblical interpretation through feminist and postcolonial lenses. She co-edited the Cambridge Companion to Biblical Wisdom Literature and is editing the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of the Bible and Animals.
Education: MA (Cantab), MPhil, PhD (University of Cambridge).
Research interests include the Book of Job, animal studies in biblical texts, and intersectionality in 1 & 2 Samuel. She co-chairs the 'Animals and the Bible' research groups for both the European Association of Biblical Studies and the Society of Biblical Literature.
Notable engagements: The Gowland Lecture 2023, interviews in Ancient Jew Review, OnScript, and ReligionWise podcasts, and contributions to Sarx.
Labs/Teams: Active in interdisciplinary biblical studies groups focusing on animals and environmental ethics.
