Suzann Pershing, MD, MS, is an Assistant Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine and Chief of Ophthalmology at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. Her academic roles blend clinical practice, teaching, research, and administrative leadership. She graduated summa cum laude in 2002 and with high honors from medical school in 2006, where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and received multiple awards. She completed ophthalmology residency at Stanford and an AHRQ fellowship in Health Care Research and Policy.

Her research focuses on ophthalmic epidemiology, healthcare delivery optimization, evidence-based medicine, and big data analysis. She leads initiatives such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s IRIS registry task force and collaborates with the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM). She is also engaged in healthcare innovation, including technology and quality improvement systems.
Dr. Pershing mentors medical students and undergraduates through Stanford’s Immersion in Medicine program and VA clinical internships. She co-directs ophthalmology clerkships (Ophth 300A/301A) and oversees Stanford medical student research projects. She serves on Alpha Omega Alpha’s national board, focusing on resident initiatives.
