Dr. Mary K. Goldstein is a Professor of Health Policy at Stanford University School of Medicine with a courtesy appointment in Medicine. She directs multiple programs at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System including the Geriatrics Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC), Stanford/VA Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, and Special Fellowship in Advanced Geriatrics. Additionally, she serves as associate director for VA postdoctoral fellowships in Health Services Research and Medical Informatics.
Her research focuses on implementing evidence-based clinical guidelines through decision support systems, using hypertension management as a primary model. She leads the ATHENA Decision Support System project, which has expanded to multiple clinical domains. Her work also examines health preference measurement in older adults for cost-effectiveness analysis.
As a recognized expert in clinical decision support and geriatrics, Dr. Goldstein has contributed to advancing quality improvement methodologies. Awards include Fellow of the American Geriatrics Society and VA Health Services Research & Development's Advanced Career Development Award. Education includes a BA in Philosophy and MD from Columbia University, Family Medicine residency at Duke University, and an MS in Health Services Research from Stanford.
