Jerome Yesavage

Jerome Yesavage, M.D. is the Jared Tinklenberg Professor of Geriatric Psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine, with additional appointments as Professor (By courtesy) of Neurology & Neurological Sciences and Member of the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute. He serves as Director of four major centers: the VA Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC), Stanford/VA Alzheimer's Center, VA Stanford Alzheimer Disease Research Center, and Associate Chair – Veterans Affairs in Psychiatry.

His research focuses on lifespan cognitive changes, Alzheimer's disease, PTSD, sleep disorders, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). He pioneered the Geriatric Depression Scale and ROC software. Current work explores precision neuromodulation through the B-SMART-fMRI trial and genomic biomarkers via whole-genome VNTR analysis.

Recent publications examine network-targeted TMS for MCI (2025), cognitive aging in veterans (2024), and sleep-cognition interactions (2023). His 15 most recent articles (2021-2025) span Alzheimer's neuroimaging, PTSD-sleep comorbidity, and novel TMS applications.

As a mentor, Dr. Yesavage sponsors postdoctoral researchers and leads NIH/VA-funded clinical trials. Outside academia, he chairs California Trout and pursues astrophotography with a personal observatory.
