Suvi Santa-aho is a Researcher in the Department of Materials Science and Environmental Engineering at Tampere University. She holds a Doctor of Science (Technology) in Materials Technology (Rock Engineering, 2012) and a Master of Science (Technology) (2008). Her work focuses on non-destructive evaluation techniques like Barkhausen noise analysis, residual stress assessment, and material characterization in advanced manufacturing contexts.
Research interests include the application of Barkhausen noise for studying material microstructure changes in steels, particularly in relation to grinding burns, shot peening effects, and corrosion mitigation in additive manufacturing processes. She has collaborated on studies involving advanced microscopy techniques to correlate Barkhausen noise measurements with material properties.
Recent contributions emphasize stress corrosion cracking in stainless steel and the optimization of mechanical treatments like severe shot peening. Santa-aho actively participates in academic activities, including peer reviews for journals such as Materials Letters and NDT & E International, and presents at international conferences on materials science and engineering.
