Mari Honkanen is a Senior Scientist at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Tampere University, and Head of the Tampere Microscopy Center (TMC). She holds a Doctor of Science (Technology) in Materials Technology and a Master of Science in Technology. Her research focuses on materials characterization, including catalysts, nanomaterials, magnetic materials, steels, composites, ceramics, coatings, and bio-based materials. She leads the Barfume project on Magnetic Barkhausen Noise and collaborates internationally with microscopy networks.
Responsibilities include coordinating TMC, training microscopy operators, and advancing materials characterization techniques. She has received the 'The best poster award' in 2011. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable materials and innovation.
Recent research emphasizes cold-spray deposition, stress corrosion mitigation, and advanced microscopy techniques. She actively participates in conferences and collaborates with institutions globally to advance materials science.
