Susanne Stemmer is a Distinguished Professor in the Materials Department at UC Santa Barbara. She holds affiliations with the Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) and focuses on quantum materials, heterostructures, and advanced characterization techniques. Her research combines molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth of novel materials with quantitative scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) development.
Education: Diploma in Materials Science & Engineering from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany), Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat.) from University of Stuttgart (thesis work at Max-Planck-Institute).
Research Interests: Functional & quantum materials, topological materials, correlated oxides, novel electronic devices leveraging unique transport phenomena. Her lab emphasizes heterostructure engineering for manipulating electronic states and device innovation.
