Susanne S. Pedersen is a Professor of Cardiac Psychology at the Department of Psychology, University of Southern Denmark, with affiliations to the Health and Cognitive Psychology VIP, INSIDE VIP, and the Danish Centre for Motivation and Behaviour Science. She also holds an external professorship at Odense University Hospital since 2014 and previously served at Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam from 2000 to 2016.
Her research focuses on the interface between cardiology and psychology, particularly in understanding psychological distress, quality of life, and behavioral interventions in patients with cardiovascular conditions such as implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), heart failure, and acute myocardial infarction. Her work emphasizes patient perspectives, user-centered design, and the development of e-health solutions to improve mental health outcomes in cardiac populations.
Her recent publications highlight trends in psychological screening, anxiety and depression in ICD patients, body image concerns, and the development of digital interventions for atrial fibrillation. These works reflect a strong commitment to integrating mental health into cardiovascular care through evidence-based, patient-centered approaches.

Susanne S. She currently participates in a major research project titled 'Sources of Meaning in life with heart disease. Development and evaluation of an intervention for cardiac rehabilitation' (2024–2027), demonstrating ongoing leadership in her field.
She leads a collaborative research network focused on psychosocial aspects of cardiac care, working across institutions and countries to improve patient outcomes through behavioral science and integrated care models.
