Susanne Kjällander is an Associate Professor and Director of the Department of Preschool Teacher Education and Preschool Research at Stockholm University. She is affiliated with the Department of Child and Youth Studies within the Faculty of Social Sciences. Her research focuses on early childhood education, particularly the role of digital tools and environments in preschool settings. She leads or contributes to research groups such as the Nordic Research Network for Evidence-Based Preschools, Practical Research in and about Preschool (PraFF), and Early Literacy in a Digitalized Society (TiLit).
Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to studying children’s socio-emotional learning, attention development, and literacy through digital media. She has published on topics like digital learning environments, preschool pedagogy, and the integration of technology in education. Current research projects include exploring the use of digital tools to reduce developmental disparities in preschoolers and examining teaching methods for programming education in schools.
Dr. Kjällander teaches courses on language and communication in preschool teacher education programs. Her research projects often bridge theory and practice, aiming to enhance preschool quality and social equity through evidence-based practices.
