Professor Susanne Hartwig has held the Chair of Romance Literatures and Cultures at the University of Passau since 2006. She focuses on the interplay between aesthetic texts, cultural organization, and disability representation in European theater, film, and literature of the 20th and 21st centuries. Her work bridges Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, and Crip Theory, examining how narratives shape societal perceptions of disability.
Research Focus: Hartwig leads the DFG project 'Narration, Expectation, Experience. Disability in Contemporary Theater and Film' and contributes to interdisciplinary networks like 'Comedy and Disability.' Her blog Images of Disability explores weekly research insights, while her chair investigates ethical questions in literature and media through projects like 'Wunschkind' photo exhibitions.
Awards and Roles: A scout for the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's Henriette Herz Scouting Programme (2020–2023), she is also a member of the academic advisory board of the Specialised Information Service for Romance Studies (since 2014).
