Susanne Baker serves as an Adjunct Lecturer and Group Piano Coordinator at DePaul University's School of Music, where she also founded and directs the DePaul Community Music Division serving 700 students with a 70-member faculty.
Her academic credentials include:
- BS from Bucknell University
- MA in Education and Music from University of Wisconsin
- MM in Piano Performance from The American University
- DM in Performance and Pedagogy from Northwestern University (studied piano with Donald Isaac, pedagogy with Francis Larimer and Elvina Truman Pearce)
Dr. Baker specializes in piano pedagogy and group instruction methodologies, having developed DePaul's keyboard skills curriculum for group piano classes. Her professional contributions span music education research, teacher training through lecture-recital presentations, and adjudication for regional competitions. She actively shapes community music education through leadership roles including service on the National Guild of Community Music Schools' Committee of School Directors and as 2009-2010 Convener for the Chicago Consortium of Community Music Schools.
Her scholarly work appears in Keyboard Companion and the Illinois State Music Teachers Association Newsletter, focusing on practical applications for piano educators and curriculum innovation in group instruction settings.
