Susanne Arenhoevel is a Lecturer in German at Swansea University's School of Culture and Communication, within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She has been teaching German language modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students since 2018, specializing in beginner-level instruction and content-based communicative language acquisition. Her roles include coordinating the German Society and supporting its language café, as well as organizing public engagement activities like German taster sessions for primary schools and cultural discussion evenings.
A certified Basic Welsh Speaker, Susanne holds membership in the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) as an "Ortslektor" and is a trainer for the Goethe Institute London, developing upskilling courses for German language educators. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes breaking down complex linguistic and cultural concepts into accessible frameworks, leveraging music and real-world contexts to enhance learning.
Prior to her current position, she taught at institutions including the Goethe-Institute Sydney, Monash University (Melbourne), Cardiff University, and the University of Vienna's Language Centre. She collaborated with 'Routes into Languages Cymru' to create German language teaching toolkits for primary schools and continues delivering training courses on topics like post-1989 German history.
