Susannah Bunce is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Geography at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM), part of the Faculty of Arts & Science. She is affiliated with the School of Cities and the Department of Human Geography at UTM, and teaches in Human Geography and City Studies programs at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). Her research focuses on urban communities, sustainable development, and social-environmental justice, particularly examining gentrification, urban commons, and community land trusts in Canadian, British, and European cities.

Her research interests include the geographies of urban communities, sustainable community building, and strategies to address socio-environmental justice. She engages critical theories of urban commons, gentrification, and more-than-human geographies to analyze land use and community-based practices. Recent work explores urban eco-villages, affordable housing alternatives, and Indigenous place-keeping in the Highland Creek Watershed.

Teaching & Engagement: She emphasizes community-engaged learning, including placements with local non-profits. Courses include Community-Based Planning and Urban Sustainability. She co-leads the Affordable Housing Challenge Project and collaborates internationally on urban development projects.
